Director of Duran Duran's - 'Rio'

The director of the music video is Russell Mulcahy an Australian film director. He directed a lot of music videos during the 80's including: Spandau Ballet, Buggles, Elton John & Queen.
This could be suggesting that because there wasn't a wide range of music video directors in the era of the 80's henceforth a lot of the videos that were released during that time were all very similar because of the lack of directors/one off directors that were available to direct the music videos.
This could also suggest why some singers have similar music videos to all their songs as they use the same director for all of them and they have roughly the same idea for each song because of their genre etc. Unless it was a video that was lengthy like Michael Jackson's thriller (similar to a short film).
